چکیده

Continuously increasing life expectancy results in a rising number of bone diseases and fractures. Replacements from natural sources are not only limited in their availability, they also have some serious disadvantages such as possible immunological reactions or transmission of diseases. New synthetic biodegradable materials based on photopolymers could be an alternative solution. In these investigations an acrylate-based monomer formulation has been developed, consisting of a biodegradable basis monomer which is derived from gelatin, different reactive diluents, an appropriate photoinitiator and filler materials. For the three-dimensional shaping process stereolithography is the method of choice because of its capability to produce cellular structures with high resolutions. # 2007 Elsevier B.V. Biodegradable stereolithography resins with defined mechanical properties

Solid Freeform Fabrication methods based on photopolymerization (e.g. stereolithography SLA, digital light processing DLP, two photon absorption TPA) offer the possibility to shape complex structures with high feature resolution and excellent surface quality. If these methods are to be used for applications in regenerative medicine, new photopolymers with defined functional and mechanical prope...

Integrating Biodegradable 3-Dimensional-Printing into Tracheal Reconstruction

Background: Currently, there is no set standard treatment for long-segment tracheomalacia and stenosis. In this study we set out to explore the potential to create a tissue engineered, biodegradable and three-dimensionally (3D) printed tracheal ring as a first step towards bioengineering a long segment tracheal replacement. Method of Approach: A 3D-Computer aided design (CAD) model was produced...

Tissue Engineered Scaffolds in Regenerative Medicine

Stem cells are self-renewing cells that can be differentiated into other cell types. Conventional in vitro models for studying stem cells differentiation are usually preformed in two-dimensional (2D) cultures. The design of three-dimensional (3D) in vitro models which ideally are supposed to mimic the in vivo stem cells microenvironment is potentially useful for inducing stem cell derived tissu...

Fibers and 3D mesh scaffolds from biodegradable starch-based blends: production and characterization.

The aim of this work is the production of fibers from biodegradable polymers to obtain 3D scaffolds for tissue engineering of hard tissues. The scaffolds required for this highly demanding application need to have, as well as the biological and mechanical characteristics, a high degree of porosity with suitable dimensions for cell seeding and proliferation. Furthermore, the open cell porosity s...
